Iyengar Yoga is based on the ancient tradition of classical Ashtanga yoga as explained in Patanjalis' The Yoga Sutras. The now 86-year-old B.K.S. Iyengar is one of the premier yogis responsible for introducting yoga to the west. B.K.S. Iyengar's mastery of more than 200 postures developed a science of innovative and impressively healing yoga. Iyengar Yoga combines yoga postures (asanas) with proper alignment and yoga breath (pranayama) to nurture greater concentration, strength, stamina, mental and physical flexibility, overall balance and inner harmony.
